Here's a nice description of events that usually take place during a match.
We start with a rifle match at 9:00 A.M. Best to show up around 8 to 8:30 to get acquainted and set out your gear. Any flintlock or caplock rifle or musket is acceptable. We do not shoot in-lines. Single shot pistols and percussion revos may be used for the pistol match which follows.
Rifle matches may be paper target, steel silhouettes or knock down plates. Pistol is usually paper. Sometimes we squad up and hold an "Indian Attack" [4x4 shoot]. Team that cuts theirs in half the fastest wins. That's when you want a guy with minie balls on your team! Most double-ball for maximum effect.
After that is the primitive match, which involves knife and hawk throwing, bow, or sometimes a Seneca Run [which is a skills course involving many different skills, including the above, shooting, setting a trap and making fire with flint & steel].
Sometimes we have a Hot Dog BBQ or a prize drawing following the match. Occasionally a member will bring a black powder mortar and launch a few golf balls or concrete beer cans [depending on bore] for fun. One of the guys has a cannon, but it's too heavy to load for just an afternoon's shooting. We usually head home around 1 or 2 P.M.
